Tips on Relocating to NZ with Your Partner

New Zealand is one of the world’s most sought-after immigration destinations, no doubt thanks to its beautiful climate, growing economy and excellent quality of life. Every year thousands of people flock to NZ for a taste of life ‘down under’ and many of them travel on a NZ partner visa. If you, too, have a partner from New Zealand and want to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity, then a NZ partner visa could be just what you’re looking for.

A New Life in NZ with Your Partner

New Zealand partner visas give our clients residency in NZ on the basis of them being married or cohabiting with a NZ citizen or permanent resident. This means that our client will have the right to live and work in the country without restriction during the length of visa. The visa could lead to citizenship after four years of the client living in NZ. Unlike some other visas for NZ, you will not be required to have a job offer from a company in New Zealand for you to be eligible

Will My Case be Accepted?

In order for you to be eligible, you must have a sponsor. A sponsor must be a citizen of New Zealand or a permanent resident over the age of 18. Their job is to support your application for immigration and provide you with financial assistance for the duration of the visa. Because of this, they will need to provide evidence that they have a certain level of income and savings in their bank account.  However, your case may be rejected should your sponsor have already submitted a successful partner application previously.

Your relationship must have lasted longer than 12 months and, for your case to be accepted, you will need to provide evidence of your relationship. We are experts in helping our clients to prepare their cases for immigration and this is often one of the most difficult steps. Providing financial or professional records is a lot more straightforward which is why our clients come to us for our unique insight into preparing immigration cases.

Processing Times and Fess

Because the cost and times of processing are controlled by the New Zealand authorities, we are unable to give any guarantees as to how much the case will cost or how long it will take to process. However, we could expect your case to be processed in around a few months and cost roughly a few thousand dollars.

A Home Away from Home

When we make a commitment to someone, whether through marriage or cohabitation, we want to be with them wherever they go. Now that we live in a completely multinational world, we meet people from different countries all the time and many relationships blossom in far-off lands. Here, one of our clients tells us how we helped her and her partner relocate to New Zealand:

“My partner and I met in the UK almost ten years ago. From the first time I met him, he wouldn’t stop talking about how brilliant New Zealand was. He would talk of his childhood there frequently and, as time went on, I too began to fall in love with the place, despite the fact that I’d never been there! We spent a few years travelling around Europe together before we decided that we wanted to settle down. After my partner’s UK visa expired, we needed a plan. As we had arranged his UK visa through IXP, we knew that they would be able to help us relocate to New Zealand. Our advisor helped us every step of the way and provided loads of valuable information. The trickiest part was providing the evidence to prove our relationship- if we hadn’t had such expert guidance, we wouldn’t have known what to do! Now we’re both happy working and living in New Zealand and I can see why he used to talk about the place so much!”
