Which Australian Visas Are You Eligible For?
Australia has one of the world’s most complex visa systems. Requirements vary depending on why you want to move, and you need to make sure that you match all of the criteria for your chosen visa.
The Australian government determine eligibility in a 2-stage process. First, you have to fulfil the basic criteria. This includes:
- English language ability
While some parts – such as the age requirement – are quite clear cut, every other aspect of this process needs to be presented correctly to make the best possible case to the immigration authorities. To prove good health and character you must convince the person reading your case that you fulfil the criteria, and that you are a better fit than the previous applicant if they are working to a quota.
If you are not applying for a family or marriage visa, you will need to take a second part, which is a points test. Many independent visa submissions are eligible, but do not know how to present the information correctly so they are marked down on points and are not granted a visa even though they are excellent candidates.
Family and marriage visas are subject to their own tests to prove the authenticity of the relationship.
You’re probably excited about your current application, but if you’re hoping to settle in Australia you should also think ahead to consider your options once that visa expires. Some visas provide a simple immigration pathway to Australia, while others require you to leave the country once it’s ended and you might not be able to apply for that same visa again.
Just let us know why you want to move, and what you plan to do, and we will ensure that your chosen visa fulfils your current requirements and helps you with your long-term immigration dreams too.
IXP Case Studies
At IXP, it’s important that we help everybody in the immigration chain – we help clients go and live in a new country, we help the country find excellent workers to meet their labour demands, and we even help employers to get the workers their company needs to move forwards. Here are just two examples from the thousands that we have helped over the years.
Australian Employers Need Foreign Workers
Derek works as the HR Director for an Australian mining company. While the business was expanding along with the industry projections, they were spending a lot of time and money arranging paperwork for new, international recruits.
"The business only started recruiting candidates from abroad fairly recently, and the process was new to all of us. We originally wanted to keep the work in-house to reduce costs, but ultimately it was a false economy since we spent more time (and money) on it than if we had just gone to an expert straight away. It was really quite frustrating since HR were expecting people to start at a particular time, but the delays on the visas meant that we didn't have the personnel we needed when we needed them.
IXP just took away all of those problems. We spoke to them and sent over all of the documentation that we had. Once we started talking about it, it wasn't surprising that we had to re-do it so many times as a lot of information was missing. IXP really made the process so much simpler and we now have all of the candidates we needed on the right visas."
How We Helped Amelia Start a New Life in Australia
Amelia had been on a working holiday in Australia during her gap year, and fell in love with the country while she was there. Years later, finding herself made redundant, she decided that it was a good chance to continue in Australia.
"I absolutely loved the lifestyle in Oz. I always planned to return at some point, but with the job situation in the UK and my redundancy I thought that it was the perfect time to do something I'd always wanted to. My redundancy package covered a lot of the move, and I was amazed at how much money IXP's partners helped me reclaim through tax back - I'd never even heard of it.
It took a few months of job hunting to find the right position, but it wouldn't have been any faster to find something in the UK. It was great to be setting off knowing that I'd have an income straight away, and even better when I found out that IXP's partners help with so much of the move. As well as the tax back, I arranged my shipping, banking, and apartment rental through IXP's recommendations and was really pleased with the service.
It's been a really exciting few months, and now that I'm properly settled in Sydney it's finally sinking in how huge a decision this was. It seemed so easy at the time, and I think that's really entirely down to IXP and how helpful the staff are. Thank you!"
